Keeping your practising licence current is an important part of continuing professional practice as a nurse or midwife in Uganda. The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC) provides an online registration and licensure system for professional registration, practising licence renewal, interviews, private practice services and application tracking.
Where do you renew your licence?
Licence renewal is completed through the UNMC Online Registration and Licensure System:
Open the UNMC Registration Portal
Documents to prepare
UNMC’s current online guidance lists the following documents for practitioner licence renewal:
- O’ Level (UCE) result slip and certificate
- A’ Level (UACE) result slip and certificate, where applicable
- Registration certificate(s)
- Your previous practising licence
- A softcopy passport-sized photograph
UNMC advises applicants to use authentic, clearly scanned original documents. Requirements can change, so check the current UNMC instructions before submitting your application.
Step-by-step renewal process
- Open the UNMC online registration and licensure portal.
- Sign in or create your online account using details you can access.
- Select the service for renewal of your practising licence.
- Enter or confirm the requested personal and professional information.
- Prepare and upload the required documents in the formats requested by UNMC.
- Review your application carefully before submitting it.
- Pay the applicable fee using the payment method provided by the portal.
- Track your application status through your account and respond to any request from UNMC.
What about CPD?
Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is part of professional development and has been linked by UNMC to practising licence renewal. Keep evidence of your CPD activities and follow the current Council guidance on CPD requirements before renewal.
Common mistakes that can delay an application
- Uploading unclear or incomplete scans.
- Using documents that do not match the information entered in the application.
- Submitting a passport photo in the wrong format or specification.
- Waiting until the last moment to start the renewal process.
- Relying on old requirements instead of checking the current UNMC guidance.
